This medicine is available without prescription to treat minor conditions. However, you still need to take it carefully to get the best results from it.

What this medicine is for


This medicine contains a combination of herbal ingredients which have traditionally been used as cough suppressants and as expectorants to soothe the airways and to ease irritation of the throat.


It can be used to relieve the symptoms of coughs and colds and to soothe sore throats.




Before you take this medicine


This medicine can be taken by adults and children aged 12 years and over. However, some people should not take this medicine or should seek the advice of their pharmacist or doctor first.



Do not take:



  • If you have an intolerance to some sugars, unless your doctor tells you to (this medicine contains sucrose, glucose and fructose)


  • If you have epilepsy or alcoholism, or have liver problems (this medicine contains alcohol which may be harmful to you or if giving this medicine to a child)


  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, unless your doctor tells you to



Talk to your pharmacist or doctor:


  • If you are taking any other medicines, including medicines prescribed by your doctor and any medicine you have bought for yourself, including herbal and homeopathic remedies



Other important information



Information about some of the ingredients in this medicine:


This medicine contains 4.8% v/v alcohol.


Each 5 ml of medicine contains 0.195 g of alcohol (ethanol) equivalent to 5 ml of beer or 2 ml of wine.


Each 5 ml of medicine contains 1.4 g of sucrose, 0.34 g of glucose and 0.43 g of fructose. This should be taken into account if you have diabetes.





How to take this medicine


Check the cap seal is not broken before first use. If it is, do not take the medicine.


Shake the bottle thoroughly before use. Use the measuring cup provided.




Adults and children of 12 years and over: Take 5 ml up to four times a day, if you need to.


This medicine should be swallowed.


Do not give to children under 12 years.


Do not take more than the amount recommended above.


If symptoms worsen, or do not go away, talk to your doctor.





If you take too much: Talk to a doctor straight away. Take your medicine and this leaflet with you.





Possible side effects


This medicine is not expected to cause side effects.



If you notice any side effect, please tell your pharmacist or doctor.




How to store this medicine


Do not store above 25°C.


Keep the container tightly closed and store in the original container.


Keep this medicine in a safe place out of the sight and reach of children, preferably in a locked cupboard.


Use by the date on the end flap of the carton and on the label edge.




What is in this medicine


Each 5 ml of oral solution contains Hyssopus Aqueous Extract (1:25) 1 gm, Liquorice Soft Extract 80 mg, Senega Liquid Extract 0.25 ml (contains ethanol), which are the active ingredients.


As well as the active ingredients, the medicine also contains peppermint oil, anise oil, capsicum tincture, tolu balsam, sucrose, glycerol, black treacle (contains fructose and glucose), caramel (E150), honey, acetic acid, chloroform spirit, purified water, chloroform.


The pack contains 150 ml of dark brown syrup.

Additional information


Hyssopus, an evergreen bushy herb, derives its name from the Greek for “holy herb” as it was used in Ancient Greece to cleanse sacred places.


Liquorice has been used by both the East and West since at least 500BC. It has been commonly used in Europe since the 16th century. The liquorice in this product is sourced from several countries in Europe.


The Senega in this product, otherwise known as Snake root, is sourced from several countries including China.



Useful Health Tips


Smoky atmospheres will make your symptoms worse, so if you smoke try your best to cut down. Sudden changes in temperature or a dry atmosphere can make your cough worse, so humidify the room by placing a bowl of water in front of a radiator. Drink plenty of fluids to keep your throat lubricated.
